Unsecured Debt

Cash has almost become a thing of the past since people have started using credit cards for their everyday purchases. Nothing is too small, such as a latte from your local Starbucks, and the businesses are not going to turn you down, because well, money is money in any form. So many people use credit everyday, and it is very easy to fall behind if you do not pay close attention to your situation.

The majority of people in America have some sort of unsecured debt, and many times, these debts get out of control, to the point where it puts stress not only on your finances, but on your mind as well. Unsecured debt, such as credit cards have the potential to make lives better, allowing people to purchase items that they may have been able to afford without the help of a payment plan. In the blink of an eye, debt can be over your head, and you may need to consider a method to rid yourself of these unsecured debts.

Methods To Becoming Debt Free
Depending on you financial situation, there are a few ways you can diminish, or even eliminate your unsecured debt completely. Debt will not disappear over night, and it does take a lot of work on your part to even begin the process of debt reduction. Choosing the right option for you is just as important as choosing the right company to do business with.

One of the best things you can do on your own is to organize your unsecured debt. If you have numerous outstanding credit card debts, you can easily and quickly shuffle the balances around to make things easier for you. By transferring all your balances to one card, you have just eliminated confusion at the end of the month, and left yourself with one manageable payment. You may also save yourself a few dollars if you transfer to the card with the lowest APR rate.

There are some situations that may require more in-depth assistance than shuffling debt. Sometimes people get into debt so badly that they can barely make ends meet each month, never mind pay their bills on time. Being behind on your payments for a few months places you in a financial hardship situation, which is one of the last things a creditor wants to hear. When you get involved with a debt negotiator, they will discuss with your creditors and come to an agreement to lower the balances of your unsecured debts, and in turn you do not declare bankruptcy and they receive some payment. This in turn saves you up to 45% off your previous balance, and allows you to climb out of debt faster than you ever could have paying minimum monthly payments.

If you are not terribly behind in your payments, but the negative balance staring back at you is driving your crazy, there may be help for you after all. A consolidation loan pays off all your unsecured debts, and bundles them into one more organized payment, saving you time and worry when the bills roll in each month. A consolidation loan will also save you large sums of money, and will usually shorten the term of your loan significantly. Most credit cards hold an APR rate of about 18%, where a consolidation loan may have an interest rate of 8%. You save money each month, and because you will be able to start paying the principal off earlier, your loan will close out faster than before.

Know Both Sides
Having outlined the advantages, keep in mind there are disadvantages to every financial program. For example, debt negotiation is very dangerous to your credit rating, due to the fact that you need to place yourself in financial hardship to make the creditors consider your position. As well, sometimes consolidation loans can be difficult to obtain if you have blemishes on your credit report. There are solutions, such as using home equity as backing for your loan, but this is dangerous as well. If you, for some reason, fall back into your old spending habits, the bank can place a lien on your home to the outstanding balances you owe to them.

The most important thing is you educate yourself about all your options, and keep an open mind to all avenues of assistance. Unsecured debt can cause such hassles in daily living if not looked after properly. There is not shame in asking for help, everyone must do it at one time or another, and being too proud could create more problems than you can handle.
